076. Lines

Going abstract for today's images, using Sarah Richters "Day 56" as it reminded me of a sculpture seen during the HoW trip to New Orleans in 2010. I still have the organic swirls and bulges and curls of the sunflowers large in my mind, but decided to take a break and focus on lines today.

               spilling in straight edges
gravity pulls, wind absent
               ribbonfall metal surges from
the split earth, silence as
               noise is only waves,
walk away with me

059. Missing

Back at work today, far removed from the NC mountains and trees and cool rain. Meeting meeting meeting people. Heat and humidity. Early night to try and reflect on HoW2. The pictures helped a little.

coolness and water and leaves
nature, oblivious to the hurl of writers
in it's midst, throwing words to the breezes
off the verandah into the night, the morning air

056. Words swirl

Away for a long weekend with a group of writers, we get up in the morning and reach for notebooks, laptops, novels. Up in the hills with trees hiding the sky and clouds; the weather not exactly keeping us inside but encouraging us to gather in groups for discussions and chat and laughter & drinking. Picking up images, I chose Stephen Hastings-King's beautiful photo of sand dunes; and developed more foam/sand writing images.

013. Sitting

More browsing, more to see, read, mull over. Today I chose a piece from Billie Williams over at billielovesdogs2011.blogspot.com. Confession time? I am a cat person, I guess if I had seen the title of the blog I might not have clicked it, and then I would have missed out on some gorgeous black and white photography. I wanted to start with her shot of encinitas beach; but Tuesday's shot of two chairs caught my eye, reminding me (again) of last years visit to New Orleans and making a nice contrast with the silty warm colour of two chairs snapped on Southern Decadence weekend, and a haiku pair below.

Double Measures
sunned whisky and silt
muted days, writers bake thoughts
into dialogue

breezes thread cool gaps
through heated conversations,
bourbon mellows us

(see Issuu publication here for more from the writers weekend in The Big Easy)
