084. Effervescence

Hard to know what inspired today's pieces really, I loved Stephen's image - it reminded me of looking through the microscope at bits of plant back in pharmacy college days, before I changed direction (once again) to the "pure" chemistry side. Still hooked on lines and curves and developed the partnering image from Antony Gormley's "Clearing" again, with a nod to Steve Veilleux' image style...

Talking with you makes thoughts soda fountain through me, and I want to let these balloons fly free, admire their buoyancy, roundness, colour. But my sticky fibred mind clings, all cilia, fingering the thoughts and changing them. Building things with them, adding combinations together until the edifice of expectation is looming ahead of me, effervescence lost.

061. Grasswritten

Today, Stephen Hastings-King has a beautiful picture of grasses that I couldn't help but steal and experiment with again. I travelled from the rolling wheat-and-cornfields of rural Indiana back to the baked concrete of Detroit, and the green is still speaking to me...

     there are blades
          between my toes
               my fingernails pierce
                    accidental wounds
                         and the grass gets in
                              chlorophyll under the skin
you grow into an earth mother
and forget me for bigger things

056. Words swirl

Away for a long weekend with a group of writers, we get up in the morning and reach for notebooks, laptops, novels. Up in the hills with trees hiding the sky and clouds; the weather not exactly keeping us inside but encouraging us to gather in groups for discussions and chat and laughter & drinking. Picking up images, I chose Stephen Hastings-King's beautiful photo of sand dunes; and developed more foam/sand writing images.

042. I said, Don't look back

Playing catch up again - sometimes life & projects don't mix too well. I have a couple of weeks trip coming up & have to sort out how I will manage to keep up with 100 days. I don't want to peter out, I am enjoying it too much, I guess I am just worried that I will find excuses to. Today's picture from Stephen Hastings-King's wonderful edge effects blog, his day 42 and his wonderful words from "Outside"
"When we passed the boundary my mind opened like a fan. I saw words floating on the surface of the water, everything I was going to say."

I know I said the road led nowhere
but it was nice to know it was there
if your flood-waters drain from here
will a path for me appear?
